Accreditation Standards
The Parks Recreation and
Tourism department at the University of Utah is accredited by the
Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related
Professions (COAPRT). The department was the first to be accreditation
west of the Mississippi river in which we are proud of. Below is a
demonstration of achievement standards as required by COAPRT.

- 7.01 - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.
- PRT 3100 Foundations of Parks Recreation and Tourism Course Reflection:
- Course Description: Introduction
to the study of parks, recreation, and tourism. Special attention to
the study of public, nonprofit, and for-profit agencies that provide
park, recreation, and tourism services. Also includes investigation of
history, conceptual foundations, and career opportunities in parks,
recreation, and tourism.

- 7.02 - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate services that facilitate targeted human experiences and that embrace personal and cultural dimensions of diversity.
- PRT 3101 Professional Preparation in Parks Recreation and Tourism Course Reflection:
- Course Description: This
course assists in helping students develop skills necessary to succeed
in the field of parks, recreation, and tourism. Students will access a
variety of professional resources, identify potential internship
agencies, and develop specific internship and career goals.
